Surgical Team
Our surgical team has a combined 70 years in professional practice. Crown Laser Center has been ranked among the Top 100 Laser Surgeons in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and Top 50 Surgeons in 2008. The results of our team’s LASIK surgery technology are outstanding: 96% of our patients see 20/20 the day after surgery and of those, 75% see 20/15 the day after surgery. Crown Laser Center also has a 99% surgery success rate and has been ranked among the Top 50 Laser Practices in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 and Top 25 Practices in 2008 by TLC Vision.

Howard N. Short, M.D. - F.A.C.S.
Dr. Short graduated from Washington University in 1974. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Saint Louis University in 1978 and performed his graduate studies in ophthalmology at Duke University. He is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a Fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Eye Surgeons.
In addition, he holds memberships in the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the International Society of Refractive Surgeons and is the past president of the Franklin-Gasconade-Warren County Medical Society.

Bruce Cohen, M.D.
Bruce Cohen M.D. attended Harvard College and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. One of the area's leading ophthalmologists, Dr. Cohen has served as chief resident of ophthalmology for Barnes Hospital and chief of the University Eye Service at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Cohen has been in practice in the St. Louis area since 1986. An experienced refractive surgeon, Dr. Cohen has been performing refractive surgery since 1994.

Chris Ullrich, M.D.
Dr. Chris Ullrich earned his Osteopathic Degree from The University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, MO. Dr. Ullrich completed a fellowship in corneal specialization with Dr. Eiferman in Louisville, KY. He was awarded Flight Surgeon of the Year, United States Medical Command; 1994-1995.

Mark D. Wade, O.D. - Clinical Director
Dr. Wade attended the Ohio State and Southern Illinois Universities and graduated with honors in 1987 achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree.
He continued his education at the Illinois College of Optometry and received a Bachelor of Science in Visual Science as well as a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1991. Upon graduation, Dr. Wade left his position as a consultant with the Wesley-Jessen Contact Lens Corporation to become the Assistant Director of Professional Relations for the Illinois Optometric Associates.
Licensed in Missouri and Illinois, he has continued his advanced training with emphasis on refractive surgical care. Mark has been a member of the St. Louis Optometric Society since 1997.

Julie M. Sturm, M.D.
Julie M. Sturm, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in the areas of cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. She is a native of St. Louis and a graduate of the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine. She completed ophthalmology residency at University Hospital of Cleveland – Case Western Reserve. She is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Missouri State Medical Association, St. Louis Ophthalmological Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Matthew Woodyard, O.D.
Dr. Matthew Woodyard graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. In 2003 he graduated the salutatorian from the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry. Directly out of school he started working at Crown Vision Center.
Dr. Woodyard not only sees patients for comprehensive eye exams and medical eye exams, but he also specializes in LASIK consultations and surgery post-op. He lives in St. Louis and is happily married with two boys. |
